I have been renting cars internationally with Alamo for the past 20 years. My first experience in Brasil was mixed but in total, it was a great experience. It was by far the best price and the rental station is easy to reach as it lies directly on the main road between downtown and the beaches. Who knows Joao Pessoa, is aware how far and difficult it is to reach the airport.

The rental was easy and staff was attentive. I had been served most professionally and friendly by Joana with whom I had contact later when I extended the rental. The car itself was new - 3,500 km on the odometer. I suppose a tin plate was lose as it vibrated at certain revolution levels. Others may find this scary or risky, and I am sure they would have changed the car had I advised accordingly.

Unfortunately, Joana was not present at the return. Although attended by two gentlemen, it took quite a while. In total, my experience was close to perfect and I will definitely return.

The most ridiculous car rental agency I ever attempted to use! I made a reservation to pick up a car at this location online. I came in on the day and hour I marked for the reservation; the employee looked it up on the computer and said that the car is at their airport location & asked if I wanted to pick it up there. I told her that since I didn’t have a car, I had no way to get to the airport, and if I did, I wouldn’t need to rent a car from them. She said it would take an hour for someone to bring the car from their airport location to this store, so I said I would go to lunch and come back in about an hour.
When I came back to pick up the car, I was told that they had not yet left the airport and was asked if I’d like to wait, so I told her absolutely not! I asked if they didn’t have any other car available at this location for rent, and she said that she did (why she did not offer this to me an hour before, I will never know). Even though the car was more expensive, I said I’d take it. When she began the paperwork, she asked me for a credit card for a deposit. I asked her how much was the deposit would be (to know which card I should give her), she told me “R$5,000”!!! I asked her again, just to make sure I was hearing her correctly and she confirmed that they wanted a deposit of five thousand Brazilian Reals. I told her this was ridiculous for a one-day rental and asked to speak to the manager. Not surprisingly, I was told the manager was not in, but I could speak to him the following day. Por que a agência Unidas merece uma estrela?

A reserva on-line é muito complicada. Não é possível fazer uma reserva sem antes criar uma conta.

Para criar uma conta, é necessário ter um telefone celular brasileiro e uma carteira de motorista brasileira. Se você tiver uma carteira de motorista estrangeira, é impossível.

Consegui fazer a reserva pelo chatbot e recebi um número de reserva.
No dia seguinte, vou até a agência e eles me dizem que as reservas com licença internacional só são feitas por telefone (não está escrito em nenhum lugar do site).

Depois de mais de meia hora atualizando a reserva, eles confirmam a cotação que eu havia obtido no dia anterior via chatbot, mas acrescida da lavagem do carro, que é obrigatória.

Entrego todos os documentos e o cartão de crédito, sou informado de que eles verificaram minha pontuação de crédito e não podem me dar o carro.
Em nenhuma locadora de veículos do mundo eles fazem pontuações de crédito para alugar um carro. 🫣

O cartão de crédito é a garantia.

Mas talvez a Unidas em João Pessoa não saiba disso.
